CIMMYT Adjunct Scientist: Dryland Crops Improvement

Description

The CIMMYT Adjunct Scientist Program is a competitive program that aims to strengthen regional crop improvement teams by developing the scientific and leadership capabilities of early- and mid-career NARS and CIMMYT scientists, strengthening NARS-CIMMYT partnerships, and building professional networks and research opportunities that contribute to a regional vision of crop improvement.

Responsibilities/Specific duties:

  • Participate in the implementation of a CIMMYT research program, under the leadership of the CIMMYT hosting scientist.
  • Invite the CIMMYT scientist to participate in the implementation of the NARS scientist’s research program, under the leadership of the NARS scientist.
  • Contribute to teamwork in a multicultural working environment.
  • Contribute to project proposal writing to mobilize financial resources.
  • Contribute to relevant CIMMYT strategic and technical meetings.
  • Travel locally or internationally to research fields and conferences as required and funding permits.
  • Adhere to CIMMYT’s relevant policies and procedures.
  • Submit the exit report using the fit-for-purpose reporting template. The report will serve as a reference and feedback to improve the program.

Required qualifications, skills, and attitudes:

  • Candidates must be active employees of the National Agricultural Research Institution in an AVISA-Transition project target country*.
  • PhD in an appropriate field awarded not more than 10 years before application or MSc with responsibilities of leading a breeding program for 5-10 years.
  • Good English language command

Benefits:

The adjunct scientist is not a CIMMYT staff member. She/he remains a staff of his/her NARS institution. However, the following benefits are provided by CIMMYT during the adjunct appointment.

  • Adjunct scientists will enjoy a part-time affiliation with CIMMYT for one year, with possible renewal for a second year depending on performance, continued mutual benefit from the position, and funding availability.
  • A monthly gross allowance of US $1000 as a top-up to his/her salary at his/her institution.
  • Proof of suitable health and life insurance will be required or provided by CIMMYT.
  • The expenses for travel and other expenses as requested by CIMMYT will be covered separately by CIMMYT.
